LANDSCAPE AND GARDEN DESIGN

We offer landscape design services ranging in scale from small garden beds to entire large estates. Since there is so much variation in the size and nature of projects the amount of time involved can vary considerably. Working drawings for modest garden beds not requiring grade measurements can take as little as six to ten hours while complete site plans with grading elevations for a major project could involve anywhere from forty-five to over one hundred hours.

Although we do not directly offer landscape installation (aside from small projects for our regular maintenance clients) we can offer experienced advice whether you wish to complete the installation yourself or employ the services of a contractor. We are also prepared to provide a full service contract for clients that prefer that we handle the entire process from design concept to completion.

GARDEN MAINTENANCE

All gardens need regular maintenance. Although some types of gardens are comparatively easy to maintain, the no-maintenance garden does not exist. And as with houses deferred maintenance only leads to deterioration and higher costs in the end. Commissioning a landscaping project without providing for maintenance is very much akin to buying an expensive car and then never checking or changing the oil.

We offer a full range of garden maintenance services including deadheading, deadleafing, weeding, planting, dividing, transplanting, fertilizing, mulching, staking, edging and advice on insect and disease control. We also offer consultations on renovating or restoring established landscapes and other horticultural questions and problems. Although we will consider some one-time projects we prefer to set up a schedule of regular weekly, biweekly, or monthly maintenance visits.

We primarily provide maintenance services to clients in midcoast Maine within Lincoln and Knox counties. Projects in other counties will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

AESTHETIC PRUNING

We offer expert pruning services to improve both the appearance and health of small (less than twenty feet in height) trees and shrubs and to direct and control their growth. Many of the techniques we employ derive from Japanese gardening but also are informed by the latest Western research. Our pruning is a meticulous union of art and science. In the specific case of pruning to control size we want to emphasize that the time to call the pruner is before the tree or shrub is outgrowing its place, not after it is already far too large. Although after-the-fact substantial size reductions are possible with some woody plants, planning and pruning to control size before the tree or shrub becomes too large produces a much more aesthetically pleasing result and is better for the health of the plant. As with our maintenance services pruning is primarily available to clients in midcoast Maine within a reasonable driving radius of Waldoboro including the Belfast, Camden, Rockland, Damariscotta, Boothbay and Wiscasset vicinities.
